June 2019

The Parent Guild appreciates all our volunteers who have served throughout the school year to make our events successful!

We appreciate your food donations for our Parent-Teacher potlucks, your creativity and thoughtfulness during Teacher Appreciation Week, your time at Field Day and the 10 Year Anniversary, your loose change for our Endangered Species campaign, and everything else in between!

In case you missed it…

With the late arrival of Spring, the Native Garden and Wildlife Habitat got a small makeover before the school year let out.  New mulch and fencing delineate the path, and new trellises will allow the vines to climb up rather than back into the garden bed. Angela Holmes and Jennifer Bartleman also added new native plants to the garden.  The Parent Guild hosted a seed planting event in May and we hope those seeds have sprouted!

Our Endangered Species Campaign raised over $200!

This year’s Endangered Species campaign highlighted Asian species to coincide with the Asian Cultural Fair.  Classrooms voted on different nominees throughout the month of May. The Asian Species winner is the Snow Leopard!  Our Michigan Green Schools co-leads will determine the best way to use the funds towards conservation of the Snow Leopard’s habitat.

Four Corners Montessori Academy earned Michigan Green School status!  We teamed up with Belle Isle for their Spring Clean-up, hosted a Planet Aid textile collection and electronics recycling collection.  Our newest initiative is the ColorCycle program hosted by Crayola to recycle markers into asphalt and electricity. The collection tubes for dry erase, permanent, and colored markers are located inside the Herbert Street entrance.

Teacher Appreciation Week in May proved to be creative, and fun through small gestures of thoughtfulness during the week.  Nicole Massie and Vida Markle helped organize our classroom liaisons to deliver a week of gratitude to all our teachers and staff at FCMA! Money Monday kicked off the week, followed by Flower Day, Survival Kit Day, Thank you Thursday and ended with Foodie Friday brunch.

The Parent Guild has voted in new leads to continue bringing together the FCMA community with school-wide events.

Cemone Moy and Megan Modica: Parent Guild co- Leads

Christie Cook: Finance Lead

Andrea Hicks and Leesa Elkins: Fundraising co-Leads

Nicole Massie: Lead Classroom Liaison

Angela Dagle: Website

Marie Lang and Andrea Jarvis: Michigan Green Schools co-Leads

Angela Holmes and Jennifer Bartleman: Native Garden and Habitat co-Leads

FCMA celebrated 10 years! While it was another rainy evening, the party continued with dancing, a make-and-take seed ball craft, and many craft potluck creations.  The photo booth and face painter were fun highlights, as well as the various food truck items, and our favorite popsicles by My Son Pops! Thanks for helping us celebrate!

Field Day Around the World highlighted different sports and activities from across the globe.  We hope students enjoyed familiar sports like soccer, and baseball, but also golfing through the Scottish highlands, learning Rugby in New Zealand, or walking the Great Wall of China.  The day finished with a sunny game of kickball between the staff and the 8th graders.

Stay safe and enjoy the summer break! We look forward to seeing you in the fall!
